The Rivers State House of Assembly faction loyal to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the FCT, has raised an alarm over an alleged plot by Governor Siminalayi Fubara to demolish the Assembly quarters.

The quarters are located on Aba Road in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, made the accusation at a press briefing immediately after a visit by the governor to the quarters on Thursday.

Amaewhule accused Fubara of being in violation of a subsisting court order.

Conducting journalists around the premises, a visibly angry Amaewhule said the building is very sturdy and doesn’t require any renovation.

The Speaker added that the governor wasn’t invited there by any of them and as such isn’t needed.

He also dismissed claims by some lawmakers loyal to Fubara that a new Speaker was elected on Wednesday.

A statement issued by the House insisted there was no change in its leadership structure, insisting that Martin Amaewhule, Dumle Maol, and Major Jack remain Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and Majority Leader respectively.
